What it is
Tula Sankramana is the sun's entry into Tula, the scales. At Talakaveri in Kodagu the spring that is the source of the Kaveri is held to well up at the moment of the crossing, the theerthodbhava. It is the one great day of the year at that place, and for families of Kodagu the fixed point of the year. It follows the sun rather than the moon, so it sits apart from the rest of this calendar.

Tula Sankramana at Talakaveri is a living regional observance of Kodagu rather than a rite defined in a pan-Indian nibandha. Its details are to be confirmed with a local authority before timings are published.
Every date here is computed: the tithi at the ghat's sunrise, the month named by the sankranti it holds, and the sun's entry into each sign under the Lahiri ayanamsa. Tithi, nakshatra, sunrise and windows were checked against Drik Panchang for Haridwar on eight days between September 2026 and March 2027, to the minute. The dates roll forward each morning.
